I want to transplant a clematis plant and also poppies. Both are in bloom now. When is it a good time to transplant them? Also, What causes a tree to grow branches from the bottom part of the trunk? Louisa

Poppies don't like to be disturbed so wait until this winter to move the plants. In the spring when they wake up, they'll be in their new homes and won't even know they've been moved. You clematis should be moved in very early spring, just before new growth begins. Good luck with your projects!
