Monrovia, we have a location with damp soil and full sun, Connecticut Zone 6. For privacy, we are planning River Birch, Winterberry, Bayberry, and Clethra. Which evergreens should we consider -- conifer, white pine, hemlock, etc.? Do any tolerate damp soil and full sun? Thanks for your help. Steve

Most evergreens do not tolerate damp to wet soil. You might try Ilex glabra or inkberry holly. Left untrimmed it can reach a fairly good size, depending on cultivar. It looks a bit like boxwood although looser in habit. Good luck with your project!
