I recently moved from Irvine to Las Vegas. I discovered your new plant at Star Nursury. I understand there is an occassional freeze here. Should I grow these in pots so they can be moved? Or can I plant close to the house or casita and they will be warm enough in the winter. Also, mine is currently pruned as a topper, will this extend out like a barbara?

Bougainvillea are hardy only to about 40F. If frost is predicted, you can provide temporary protection when the plant is small. As it matures you'll probably have to cut away any winter damage on the tops of the plants. The roots should be able to manage a short frost and will send out healthy new stems in the spring. Oo La La grows 6-8' wide and only about 2' tall. It's not nearly as vigorous as Barbara Karst but it is a beautiful plant. Enjoy!
