| i recently bought one of your banana split yucca plants and was wondering how deep are they to be planted,, I am planting in the ground in front of my porch i didn't know if they like to be deep or close to the surface, since when i purchased it there were some roots close to the top of the soil and sticking out a bit,, it's been planted for about 2 weeks,,and i think the leaves have become darker in color,, less yellow, more brownish,, is it not doing well?? i don't want it to die, please let me know what you think, thanks |
| Yucca recurvifolia 'Monca' is considered hardy into zone 7. It requires full sun all day and a very well drained soil to do well. You definitely would not want to plant it too deeply as this could cause the roots to rot and this would show as a foliage problem. Planting it in a heavy clay soil could also cause rotting problems. Overwatering could also cause it to brown. Fading color could indicate it is in too little sun. It really needs sun all day long. I should also mention that your zip code places you in zone 6, so this needs to be planted in a very sheltered spot or kept as a container plant that you can bring into a protected area each winter. You may want to check back with your retailer since this is a new plant, and/or consult with your county extenion, they should be able to help you troubleshoot the browning. |
