| This is an interesting question. Sometimes Japanese beetles will feed on these but it is early in the season for them to be out and you would likely see them, too. Apart from that there isn't really a typical culprit for Buddleia -- this is generally a pest free plant except for occasional spider mite problems (and this definitely is not those.) It might possibly be some type of weevil feeding at night. I would suggest you consult with your local county extension and/or professionally trained and certified nurseryman to see if they can identify the pest based on the pattern of the chewing (or an actual pest if you can catch one -- try checking at night). Unfortunately, without knowing specifically which pest it is it is impossible to make any kind of control recommendation. Sometimes too if the damage is not terribly extensive it can simply be tolerated. I hope it's nothing serious. Good luck with your buddleia! |
