The Q&A Archives: spider mites and blue alberta spruce

Question: We recently removed 2 alberta spruce that had gotten too big. We saw a blue alberta spruce at white oak garden center in cincinnati and were wondering if the blue alberta has the same problem with spider mites as the ordinary alberta spruce did. It was almost impossible to keep up with the spider mites in the old alberta's.

Answer: I'm afraid all spruces are susceptible to spider mite infestations. You can discourage the pests if you periodically hose your spruce's down. Spider mites like dry conditions and washing them off will convince them to find another home.
