| I recently purchased 3 of Monrovia's Endless Summer Hydrangeas. I water them nearly every evening, but after several sunny 90 degree days, they seem to severely dry and starting to turn brown on the edges of the flowers. Other than not getting them enough water, is there anything else I need to do? I thought I was watering them sufficiently. |
| There are several possible explanations. One is that you may be overwatering. The soil only needs to be moist like a wrung out sponge, not sopping wet or saturated. OVerwatering can cause root damage that then shows up as foliage problems and prematurely fading flowers. New plants do not yet have a fully established root system so they may show signs of heat stress on an extra hot day -- they may wilt in the afternoon and the flowers may fade extra fast, but should recover in the evening when it cools down. If they recover in the evening then they should be okay. Also, I should mention that this is not a plant for a full sun location or for an afternoon sun location. It will grow best in morning sun or in a spot with bright dappled light all day long. If you are concerned about your new plants I would also suggest you check back with the retailer where you purchased them. |
