2 weeks ago I planted a Yoshino Cherry tree. I noticed a sappy spot on the trunk where a bamboo stake had been glued to the tree. Now there are more sappy bumps covering approx. 8-10 inches of the trunk and the trunk appears to be yellowing in this area. What is this and is there anything I can do to stop it?

Unfortunately this sounds like a fairly serious problem. I would suggest you contact your retailer since it is a new tree for help in diagnosing the problem specifically and based on knowing that, decide how to proceed. I'm sorry about your tree.
