Hydrangeas are native to North America and Asia, so you'll want the hardiest types for growing in your area. H. arborescens, called Hills of Snow, is a good choice, so is French Hydrangea (H. macrophylla), that comes in pink, blue or white varieties.Another stout and dense growing choice is H. quercifolia, with white flowers.
