The Q&A Archives: pruning

Question: When do you prune the dead wood on a hydrangia?

Answer: Dead wood can be removed as soon as it becomes apparent. On the Hydrangea macrophylla types, be cautious in the spring as the stems can look unpromising at first and then still bud out. By June I would say you could probably remove anything that has not leafed out.
