I have purchased a new home that came without any landscaping in the back yard. The house is a rental property, so I just want to put in some grass, or grass seed. Is there a grass seed that I can plant that is durable and I wont have to use top soil for? Either way, what type of grass would you suggest, the house is located in Oceanside, CA? How would you suggest I go about seeding the yard?

Thanks!

Margarita,

Tall fescue is probably your best bet for those conditions. It is best established in the fall as the start of the cooler season. Your County Extension Office can help by providing information on turf types, planting and care.
