The Q&A Archives: Clematis in Shade

Question: Can a clematis grow in a shady environment?

Answer: Clematis really should have a minimum of 4-5 hours of sunshine a day. If your location has that, the clematis may do just fine. It needs good drainage and a good, rich, loam soil. It's roots should be kept in shade allowing the top to grow toward thesun, or by mulching.<br>
