The Q&A Archives: Plants for Wet Areas

Question: What potted plants can I put around a fountain? This is a mostly shady and moist area. The two types of ferns I tried last year did not like the water falling on them ten hours a day.

Answer: Sally,

Very few plants will appreciate such a setting. Your best bet is to go with plants for a bog garden. Some options include Cannas (choose dwarf types to avoid blocking your view of the fountain) although they won't want too much shade, Louisiana iris, and Virginia sweetspire.
