I recently moved to Humboldt County, CA. I want to incorporate a dry stream bed in the landscape but do not know what native plants to use. I need a medium size tree, small shrub, groundcovers, grasses(?). The site is full sun. I have not had much luck at local garden centers.

There are literally hundreds of plant possibilities for the site you describe. Here's a link to a fun site sponsored by the California Native Plant Society. You put in your zip code, the amount of watering you want to do, whether or not you'll use mulch material, and what your favorite foliage colors are and it generates a list of plants. Toggle on the discription of each and you'll get a full color photo plus cultural information. Give it a try and I'm sure you'll find tons of possibilities. Once you've decided on the plants, there's a list of nurseries specializing in native plants. Enjoy your new garden! http://www.mynativeplants.com/...
