| I have recently planted several Bleeding Heart Ferns in a partially shaded area. I am watering on a regular basis, everyday or so. The plants first turned yellow and are now almost black and look dead. Should I cut all the stems off at the base and any ideas on what went wrong. |
| Dicentra spectabilis, the old fashioned tall bleeding heart, normally does go dormant by midsummer just as you have described. This is to be expected and does not indicate any problem. Cut away the dead foliage and mark the spots that you've planted. Next spring you can expect healthy new growth and lots of bleeding hearts. |
