There are so many possibilities that I will give you some hints on choosing plants which you can use to fine-tune your choices. The most important things when choosing plants are determining what sun exposure (full, partial, shady) they will thrive in and how much space they need to grow to maturity (both vertically and horizontally), and then comparing that with what your landscape offers. Determine how much room plants will have around your foundation area. You don't want to put in large plants that spill over into pathways, or hit overhanging eaves, etc. and need constant pruning. Cutting back plants continually to keep them in bounds isn't good for their long-term health and opens them up to pests and disease. Cold hardiness is another important characteristic for your region. Analyze your site and think about what you want from each plant (you've already done some of this) then choose plants that fit that situation. Use Monrovia?s Plant Finder to come up with a list of plants you might be interested in. You can focus the type of plant category (evergreen shrub, tree, etc.) and attributes (deer resistant, etc.) that you want. Enter your zone. A list of possible plants will come up, then go to the plant?s webpage for more detail. Good luck!
