The Q&A Archives: Triming New Zealand Flax

Question: I have a 6 foot tall new Zealand Flax. Can I simply cut it back?

Answer: You can cut down the clump and new growth will begin in a few weeks. After cutting it down, you may want to dig the roots and divide the plant. Phormium grows as wide as it does tall and occasionally outgrows its garden spot. This would be a good time to dig and divide.

Best wishes with your garden!
