In season means when the fruit or vegetable is ripe and ready to pick. It can be hard to tell nowadays because so many things are imported or trucked in from California or Florida, or grown hydroponically in greenhouses, for example. If you have a local farm stand or farmers market that sells locally grown and harvested produce and fruit, they will have what is currently "in season" (in your area) for sale. For example, snow peas, rhubarb and spinach and broccoli are in season in spring, strawberries and garden peas are picked in June, bush beans, tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini are ready in July and August and September, melons and corn are ready in late summer, and winter squashes are ready in early fall or so. Apples are ready in the fall. I hope this helps answer your question.
