The Q&A Archives: Cactus for outdoors

Question: Whick type of cactus grows best outdoors?

Answer: Carol,

I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help.

Many types of cactus grow well outdoors, in fact most all prefer a good sunny exposure. Some popular types in central Texas are the opuntias or prickly pears. There are thornless types and one with burgundy tinged pads called 'Santa Rita'.
For other options the small barrel type cacti work well.

Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon!
