I have had this acer palmatum for about six months now and I have noticed more leaves browning or drying up over time, what could it be?

Browning leaf margins are relatively common in maples. Acer palmatum will grow in full sunshine, but provide filtered shade if possible, to maintain leaf color throughout the summer months. Japanese maples will show burn on leaf edges if soil is high in salts; flood soil occasionally to leach out salts. Keep your maple watered during the growing season (a weekly deep soaking should be all that's required).
