The Q&A Archives: Sculpted Shrubs

Question: Do you sell, or know who does, shrubs sculpted into animal shapes (i.e. deer, fish, etc.)? I am looking for one 4'-6' tall.

Thank you,

Answer: I would suggest you work with your local nursery to see if they can locate something like this for you. You may need to have a wire frame made and installed in the ground, then over time train a yew or similar evergreen shrub to follow the shape of the frame -- with the shrub planted in the ground in a sheltered location. Often the wire frames are filled with a fibrous material such as spagnum moss and have English ivy or creeping fig trained on them but these plants would not survive outdoors in your cold climate. Good luck with your project!
