The Q&A Archives: Japanese Blueberry Tree

Question: Would the berries on Eleocarpus decipiens (Japanese Blueberry Tree) cause a problem if the plant is used as a street tree, either as a slip hazard or staining the surface below?

Answer: The fruits of the tree look like black olives and hang in clusters. They're firm, though, so unless the dropped fruit is stepped on, it shouldn't stain the sidewalk.
