| It really isn't a good idea to add soil over the roots of a tree. The additional soil can actually suffocate the roots. Instead of adding soil, why not garden in containers - either long planters or decorative pots which you can arrange (and rearrange) under your tree? If you fill the planters or containers with potting soil rather than garden soil they will be light enough to move around when you want a change of scenery. Gardening in containers also keeps the tree's roots from competing with the roots of your new plants for moisture and nutrients. Once you've chosen your planters and containers, you can either plant perennials, shrubs, or annuals. As long as they like shady or filtered sunlight conditions, they should thrive. Enjoy! |
