Phygelius is the Cape Fuchsia from South Africa. This plant in related to the snapdragon and penstemon, but the flowers look like those of fuchsias. These plants are more cold hardy than the hybrid Fuchsias, which are native to tropical America. Hybrid fuchsias are typically grown in hanging baskets. There is a hardy fuchsia (Fuchsia magellanica) with an upright, shrubby growth habit. These plants will survive full morning sunshine in your gardening region and will return year after year, just as your Cape Fuchsia does. Hope this answers all your questions!
