The Q&A Archives: Gardenia flowers no fragrance

Question: I planted 2 gardenia plants last fall. I started giving them muracid in April when I found out they needed more iron. They are doing well with green leaves and many blooms. But they flowers do not have much fragrance. What should I do? Are they lacking some other nutrient?

Answer: Angela,

I don't think it is a nutrient at all. I haven't heard of gardenias losing their fragrance. I think this is temporary and they will produce fragrant flowers again. Perhaps it is somewhat weather related, but again it should not last.
