Are there advantages to buying 2-year-old or 3-year-old Asparagus crowns versus one-year-old crowns? Will the older crowns permit earlier cutting of spears? From what I understand, light cuttings can be obtained the year after planting the crowns. Will a3-year-old crown planted this spring accelerate the process?

Most nurseries I know of sell 1 year old crowns. I would imagine that older crowns could accelerate the process as you stated. However older plants often have a more difficult time becoming established. They are more subject to shock. I would think in this case, patience may be a greater advantage than early spears.
