The Q&A Archives: pruning plumbagos

Question: I have several pumbagos..they are not blooming very well this year..they get sun....I didprune them, but maybe too late..Now they are very bushy and healthy looking, but few blooms...I'm wondering if I can cut them back now, so the sun can get to them better..will they develop more buds and bloom if I cut them back now?

Answer: Shirley,

You can cut them back but each pruning delays blooming until they can produce new shoots and get the time needed to set bloom buds on them. I would wait unless you feel they are really misshapen and in need of pruning.
