However, in the intense sun of Arizona, many non-native plants that are listed as full sun, can't take it, doing better with shade in the hot afternoon. Arborvitae is one example. However, full sun plants still typically need some sun, such as morning (eastern) exposure. Your nursery may be familiar with the growing conditions of these plants in your area, and perhaps they can indeed take full shade, although it's a bit unusual.
