| It's normal for evergreens such as citrus trees to lose their oldest leaves (those near the center of the tree. These will be replaced with healthy new leaves later in the season. If all the leaves are turning yellow, it could indicate some root distress or lack of light. Citrus trees adapt well to growing in containers. During the growing season, keep them evenly moist but not sopping wet and provide them with plenty of sunshine. Fertilize according to the label instructions with a fertilizer containing micronutrients (particularly zinc, iron and manganese) as well as the usual nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium found in complete fertilizers. (You'll find fertilizers formulated especially for citrus; use only half the recommended amount and dilute it with water before applying. Trees in containers can suffer root burn if the fertilizer is too strong.) During the winter, reduce the watering somewhat when they slow their growth. Best wishes with your lemon tree! |
