I have several window planterboxes facing south. Please recommend some annuals that are attractive, flowery, lots of colors and can take full sun. I currently have petunias in the boxes...they aren't doing well but their siblings on the north side of the house are prolific. I'm very careful with watering and fertilizing. Thanks in advance.... |
Instead of annuals, why not plant perennials? In such a nice sunny site, you'll have a rainbow of flower colors to choose from. Try Potentilla, Salvia, Gladiolus, Iris, Phlox, Veronica, Rudbeckia, Astilbe, and Lily. Some suggestions for groundcovers type plants that like to cascade over planter box edges include Asarum (wild ginger), Duchesnea indica (Indian mock strawberry), Gazania, Houttuynia, Ice plant, Lamium (dead nettle), Osteospermum (trailing African daisy), Phlox subulata (moss pink), and wooly Thyme. For instant color and coverage, you can interplant annuals. Enjoy your new flowers! |
