| I recently planted 3 of monrovia's 'tiny towers', the italian cypress, but they seem to be dying slowly. Can you recommend a watering routine, icluding duration and intensity of watering. I live in hardiness zone 7a, grasslands. Any expertise you can offer will be greatly appreciated. |
| Wil, I am sorry for this delayed reply to your gardening question. We are transitioning to a new Q&A system and your question was unfortunately lost in the transition. I have discovered it now and hope this reply is not too late to be of help. Getting a new shrub or tree off to a good start in the heat of summer is a challenge. The key is to keep the root zone moist but not soggy wet. The roots are very confined to the area of the original container shape for several months after planting. I suggest you dig down a few inches to feel the soil to get an idea if it is soggy or starting to dry to the touch. In most cases you will need to give the plant a light watering every day for a few weeks and then move to every 2 days for a month or so. Once fall arrives with cooling temps and perhaps some more rain the watering can be extended to a longer interval. When late fall to winter arrives you probably won't need to water at all until next spring. Thanks for the question. Please stop in again soon! |
