I am looking for 'Surprise Lilies' to plant but don't know the flower name to look for. Are they a bulb planted in the spring? Any help you could give me on locating these would be appreciated. |
Surprise Lily (Lycoris) is also know as the Resurrection Lily or Naked Lily. It is a bulb that blooms in late summer with very showy clusters of flowers in pink, white, red, or yellow. Lycoris is a close cousin to the Spider Lily and can grow up to 2' in height. It has an added benefit of being a deer resistant plant. It earned the name Surprise Lily because in the early spring a few straplike green leaves appear, then die down. In late summer (surprise!) the foliage comes back and the plant blooms. It is hardy to USDA zone 5. You can obtain the Surprise Lily from Amaryllis, Inc., P.O. Box 318, Baton Rouge, LA 70821. Ph. # (504) 924-5560, or (504) 924-5421. |
