I have deep shade, and tall astibles planted against a fence. I need two more flowering perennials to plant to (1)flower in spring before the astible and then (2) in the autumn when the astilbe fades.
I would appreciate suggestions, especially for tall plants.

For deep shade and spring bloom on a tall plant you might like the old fashioned bleeding heart or Dicentra spectabilis. This plant goes dormant in midsummer, so you would want it in a spot where that is not a problem. For late season interest you might like Tricyrtis, some of the cultivars are fairly tall. I am a little concerned about growing the astilbe in deep shade -- if it is truly deep, they will not bloom very well. Good luck with your flowers!
