Hello, We are looking for a tree(on the west side of the house) to create lots shade area to cover our lawn during summer time. We have lots roots problem, i.e. roots went into our drain system. Do you recommend Mimosa, if not, could you offer a better suggestion? The tree will be planted in the NW corner and between 40 years Magnolia (on the west of the house) and Calif Sycamore (on the north of the house) Note: the house is on a corner lot. Sincerely, Helen |
Albizia (mimosa) has what is considered a shallow root system so it is an option for the site you describe. Other choices include Acer japonicum (fullmoon maple), Apple, Cercis (redbud), Chionanthus (fringe tree), Crape Myrtle, flowering plum, Stewartis, or Leptospermum (Australian Tea Tree - evergreen). Best wishes with your landscape! |
