We just purchased a home in Maryland and I have two questions. 1. We have 6 Yucca plants in the yard and 4 of them flowered this year. What do we do with the stems after the flowers have died? 2. Re-landscaping the back yard: What type of grass seed do you recommend for this area and when should I seed (start)? Thank you for your time. |
When the flowers have faded, cut the entire stem to just below the tops of the foliage. This will make your yuccas look neat and attractive. As for grass seed, the variety you choose will depend upon several things; exposure to sun or shade (or both), amount of traffic the turf will receive, type of soil you have. I've had the best success in purchasing a blend of both cool and warm season grasses, for both sun and shade. That way there's always something green, regardless of weather and hours of sunlight. Try visiting a local nursery and asking for their custom blend. they've done lots of research and will know exactly which grasses perform best in your neighborhood. Best wishes with your garden! |
