What would be the best way to remove lots of ivy?

Ivy is extremely difficult to permanently remove, but you can do it if you keep at it. Digging all the roots out is the best way, but it's not always the easiest way. I'd start by using a vegetation killer (glyphosate), then digging and removing the debris. Expect new shoots to pop up. Hit them again with vegetation killer. If you're persistent, you'll eventually get rid of the ivy.
