| Someone told me I should pick off the dead blossoms off my African violet so it would keep blooming. Well I did, but there are no flowers coming back. It looks happy and green, but it is a flower free zone. |
| The advice to dead-head is very sound. You must do that with ALL flowering plants. Otherwise the plant will attempt to make seeds, thereby putting its energy into procreation instead of flowers! It is unrealistic to expect the African Violet to flower constantly. It needs an occasional rest. Be sure it has bright light, especially now in the winter. The air should be relatively high in humidity. Occasionally, immerse the pot in tepid water allowing the plant to drink deeply from the bottom. Do not allow the foliage to get wet. When you water always use tepid water. African Violets are creatures of habit. They do not take kindly to being moved often, so if you have moved it recently, that may be part of the problem. However, I think your "Saintpaulia" is just taking a rest. African Violets have several flushes of flowers a year. They don't flower constantly (unless you're an expert!). So relax, and enjoy! |
