Thuja 'Green Giant' is a good choice for quick screening. They grow best in full sunshine, in fast-draining soils. Thuja are generally pest free, although if the weather is hot and dry, spider mites can take up residence in them. Your best defense against this is to routinely hose them off during the hottest summer months (spider mites like dry, dusty conditions). Here are a few local nurseries carrying Monrovia stock:
