My podocarpus and catalina cherry plants are over 15 feet high. I want to cut them back a bit. Can I do this in the hot summer?

You can do some light pruning now, but try not to remove more than one-third of the live growth in any one pruning session. If you want to reduce the size of your trees by more than that, plan to do it in 2-3 pruning sessions spread out over a 2-3 year period. Best wishes with your landscape!
