Sweet Peas (Lathyrus odoratus) take 14 days to germinate and 6 to 8 weeks to grow to transplant size. They're a cool season annual and will take cool soil temperatures, so all you need to do is count back ten weeks from your usual last heavy frost. To speed germination, soak the seeds a few hours before planting. They germinate best in dark, cool conditions (45F - 55F).

When you plant outdoors, be sure to provide full sun and rich soil. (Amend the garden bed with organic matter before planting.) Then just sit back and wait for those wonderfully fragrant blooms to appear.
