I'd like to have a mimosa tree but I believe I'm in zone 5 .......my zipcode is 61564 do you think I could successfully grow a mimosa tree in my area? If not could you recommend a tree hardy to my area that is striking and fast growing ,as the mimosa tree is ???

Unfortunately, this tree is only considered hardy into zone 6 and your zip code places you in zone 5B. Depending on the microclimate of your yard and how sheltered your planting site is, it might possibly be considered the colder part of zone 6. On the other hand, it might be 5A or the colder part of zone 5 if it is an open, windy, and exposed spot. So, sadly, it most likely would not be able to survive your cold winters. I'm sorry I can't be more encouraging.
