I've been told that we have a short growing season. What veggies to you recommend?

You're in zone 5 (Eastern Colorado) where winter temperatures average -20F to -10F. You'll have only about 90 days of growing season, so stick with plants that will mature in about 60 - 70 days. It will take the seeds 7-14 days to germinate and begin to grow, so you'll want to add that to the "date to maturity" on the seed packet.

I'm sure you'll want tomatoes, peas, beans, squash, and lettuce, plus any of your family's favorite veggies. Burpee carries the followingshort season varieties:

Early Girl, Northern Exposure, and Medina Tomatoes.
Super Sugar Snap peas.
Tender Pod, Blue Lake and RomaII beans
Sweet Zuke, Early Golden Summer and Butterstick Hybrid squash.

Just stay away from trying to grow melons - you might be disappointed!

Good luck with your new garden.
