The Q&A Archives: sodded lawn

Question: new sod lawn, 1 1/2 mos. old suddenly dried out in many places & have watered faithfully - very hot in NY area of late & no dog damage. what can be the problem

Answer: The sudden drying can be caused by heat stress, especially if there are any spots where the roots have not grown down into the soil below the sod. Mowing too short (or mowing over uneven ground causing some spots to be scalped or cut too short) can also kill it in spots. There are also some pest and disease problems that can cause lawn to die out in patches. I would suggest you consult with your local county extension to troubleshoot the problem areas. Good luck with your lawn!
