I need a year-round evergreen wind break that provides privacy. What do you recommend? |
Either spruce or pine will provide privacy and serve as wind breaks. Try Pinus densiflora (Tanyosho pine), which grows 40-80 feet tall. It's a slow-growing, but sturdy tree. Pinus resinosa (Red pine) has a conical growth habit with a mature height of25 feet. The Spruce varieties, Picea glauca or Picea punges, are symetrical in habit, grow up to 75 feet tall and are excellent windbreaks. Many varieties of Arborvitae (Thuja occidentalis) grow "thick & quick", come in various shades of green and yellow, not to mention growth habit. Check out the stock in your local nurseries for details. Be sure to help your new trees become established by providing ample water during the growing season their first year or two in the ground. |
