| Here are a few ideas: Sagittaria Latifolia Arrowhead shaped leaves up to 18 inches tall add a coarse texture to the pond. Three petaled white flowers appear from June through August. Spreads well in earthen ponds. Dulichium arundinaceum Looks like a small bamboo grove, but is actually an aquatic grass, great for growing along the border of a water garden. An easy to grow choice for compact edge planting. Carex nigra Lovely blue-green grass for texture along pond edges. No other plant can provide this unique color on weeping grassy stalks. Flower is insignificant in spring. Cotula coronipifolia Spreading groundcover with dense glossy leaves on trailing stems. Yellow flowers in summer produce seed that drop off and maintain the plants' presence along the ponds' edge. Lobelia cardinalis (Cardinal Flower) Glowing red flower spikes are held above red-tinged leaves. Blooms late summer and early fall. Good naturalizer. Glyceria spectabilis variegatta An aquatic grass that has purple foliage in spring and brightly variegated leaves in summer. Invasive in earthen ponds. Pontederia cordata var. 'Giant' This very large version of pickerel rush needs space to perform, and wow, will it ever show off! Glossy leaves are below spikes of thick flowers all summer.
