This clematis flowers on new growth of the season, so if it has been growing it will bloom in September. Do not prune it now as this will remove the flowering stems. It is usually pruned back very short in early spring to help keep the size under control and to remove any winter killed stems as well as to stimulate vigorous new growth. Enjoy your clematis!
