| I plan on trasplanted 15 Dwarf Alberta Spruce in the spring of 2006. They're around 6 ft tall and some do have red spider mites. My neighbor wants to get rid of them. When is the best time to transplant? What care is needed to do so? How do I eliminate the Red Spider Mites? The spruce's are very close together so I assume the root systems are intertwined. Will cutting the roots sytem to close ruin the tree? Thanks |
| In my experience this is too large a tree to move successfully, and if they are already stressed their chances are even less. I would suggest you consult now with a professionally trained and certified arborist as to how best to prepare and ultimately move these. They may suggest advance root pruning and use of a tree spade, for example. As far as the spider mites, these can be treated with horticultural oil however it must be applied at the right time in their life cycle to do the job. I would suggest you consult with your local county extension and your arborist to obtain a firm identification of the pest and specific control recommendations. They will have the most up to date information on what may legally be used in your state as well as be able to advise the best timing for applying it. Good luck with your little trees! |
