It is mid July in NJ, and I just found Asparagus crowns. Is it too late to plant them now or should I store the crowns until next spring.

IF you have already purchased them you should plant them, they will not store until next spring. Make sure they are still firm and have not dried out completely/shriveled. If that has happened, they may be dead. Plant them in a deep trench and refill it as they grow, make sure the soil at the bottom of the trench is damp to encourage rooting. If it is dry, you could add water at the bottom of the hole before you plant. Good luck with your asparagus!
