| There are several things to keep in mind when you plant near an air conditioner. One is that the unit needs to have clearance, both to allow for unimpeded air flow and for occasional maintenance. You need to keep in mind the mature size of the plant in relation to the space available for it. And finally, the plant should be suited to the growing conditions in that location in terms of sun (and time of day it is sunny there), wind exposure (especially in winter), and the soil type and typical soil moisture level. It should also be hardy in your zone, which based on your zip code is a 6A or the colder part of zone 6. In practice if you have a cold and windy exposed location it might be as cold as zone 5. I would suggest you work out the answers to these questions in consultation with your local county extension and/or your professionally trained and certified nurseryman and then make your plant selection.
