The Q&A Archives: Flowers

Question: My blooms fall off my plants. Is there something I can do to stop this? They bloom and fall off. The plants are roses, lilies and mums.

Answer: It is perfectly normal for flowers to open fully, last a few days or a few weeks, and then die. There's nothing you can do to stop this process, but if you cut off the flowers just as they begin to drop their petals, your plants will be encouraged to produce more flowers. This process is called dead-heading. Best wishes with your garden!
